‘Le français, c’est top!’
Learning French is fun at St Francis
French is taught throughout the school from Nursery to Year 8. Lessons are dynamic and engaging, encouraging each pupil to develop enjoyment and confidence in the language, and to reach their linguistic potential. We aim to instill a love of French, and to build a sure foundation for success at Common Entrance, GCSE and beyond.
The productive skills of speaking and writing, and the comprehension skills of listening and reading are fully covered, the emphasis varying according to the age of the pupils. ICT and creative work form an integral part of the programme, as pupils are motivated constantly to expand the limits of what they can say. Grammar enables pupils to understand the structure of the language and is taught in an accessible, pupil-friendly way. Pupils develop the capacity to handle the language confidently, with good intonation and accent.
Year 7 Château Experience
Year 7 pupils experience the language, culture and cuisine of France on our annual residential trip to the Château de la Baudonnière, in Normandy. Pupils enjoy five days of activities and excursions with total immersion in the French language. With experiences ranging from aéroballe to scaling the heights of Mont St Michel, it is no wonder the stay is often chosen as the highlight of a pupil’s time at St Francis.
