Bath Biathlon for St Francis pupils
Four pupils from Pewsey-based Prep School St Francis qualified for the first British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships since the lockdowns imposed by COVID.
Year 8 pupil Luke qualified alongside Year 6 pupils Olivia, Henry and Sophie for the event, which is to be held at the Sports Training Village at the University of Bath this half term.
Director of Sport at St Francis, Kevan Brown, enthused “It is wonderfully exciting for national events such as the British Schools Modern Biathlon to be starting up again after the COVID pandemic. Our pupils benefit massively from the opportunity to compete against their peers in this way, and rightly have a huge sense of pride that they were able to qualify for such a prestigious event.”
St Francis has a longstanding history of supporting athletic endeavours, alongside encouraging traditional team sports.
On the day, Olivia finished 51st out of 106 competitors, whilst Henry battled illness to finish lucky 13th out of 70 qualifiers.
David Sibson, Headmaster at St Francis added “This was a fantastic result for our pupils, and a testament to the hard work and dedication they have shown in these strange times we find ourselves in now. A huge thanks must go to the Sports Department, and those who coached them.”
