Fiona Lumbers visits St Francis School
St Francis pupils enjoyed a special visitor as part of their literary theme this term, welcoming in renowned children’s author Fiona Lumbers.
Fiona is the author of favourite children’s books such as “Clem and Crab”, “Luna Loves Art” and “I like bees, I don’t like honey” and visited the St Francis pupils to talk about her career as an author.
Visiting pupils from Reception to Year 3, Fiona hosted a “drawalong” teaching the pupils how to draw the under-the-sea creatures that populate her beloved books.
Mandy Pilgrim, Head of Pre-Prep at St Francis enthused “We are so grateful Fiona was able to come and spend the day with us at St Francis; the pupils enjoyed having a “real life” author come and speak to them! It was all the more special as one of our pupils dressed up as Clem, from Fiona’s book “Clem and Crab” for World Book Day! The draw-along was especially fun and inspired many of our pupils to create their own illustrated picture books for mums and dads.”
In addition, Fiona read from her books to the pupils, fielding questions about her inspiration.
David Lee, Head at St Francis added “It is really important to us at St Francis that we expose our pupils to a wide range of careers, and real-life applications of subjects that our pupils love so much. Having Fiona come in to speak to our community about her books, her career and show her evident joy in her work really opens our pupils’ eyes to the possibilities that studying arts subjects can bring. I would also like to extend my thanks to Fiona for so generously sharing her time and experience with St Francis, we were thrilled she visited us!” .
