Visit to Horton Farm

Reception and Year 1 enjoyed a very exciting trip to Horton Farm yesterday as part of the Science and Understanding the World Curriculum.
Home to the Rider family, Mrs Rider showed our curious pupils the workings of the farm – from the big green egg(s) that the emu chicks hatched from, to the chicks themselves (very sweet!) to the pigs, lambs, emu (Mummy), calves and the milking parlour which the cows visit every day!
Head of Pre-Prep, Mrs Pilgrim said: “It was a fabulous day, Rachel Rider showed the children such an exciting array of farm life!
Highlight of the day was a visit to the Goat dairy, where we met lots of beautiful goat kids. They were very friendly and the children loved cuddling them, although some kids loved nibbling the children! We did have to make sure that Mrs Ashman’s bag was empty as we left as she was very reluctant to put down a beautiful white kid …!!
Lunch in the sunshine and a play in the garden maze and yew tree tunnel. Perfect day out, thanks to Rachel Rider and our two drivers, Mr Piper and Mr Stephens.”
