Walter Captains Wilcot to Success

Year 7 pupil at St Francis, Walter Gates became a radio star when he was interviewed by the BBC for their ‘Kit out the Nation’ initiative.

In a summer which saw cricket become more popular than ever, helped by The Hundred, Walter was part of the hype when he was interviewed by the BBC about his love for cricket.

Walter is part of local cricket club, Wilcot, and captained the U11 team through a phenomenal season where the team ended up second in the league. Wilcot recognised Walter’s hard work as Captain, by also awarding him ‘Young Player of the Year’.

Director of Sport at St Francis, Kevan Brown enthused “Walter is a brilliant sportsman – not just in his physicality, but also the soft skills he possesses which help to develop an outstanding team and lead them to success.
