Friday Messages – 25 September 2020

Dear Parents,

This new term carries on apace, and I continue to be impressed by our children and staff and the way they have adapted to the new working ways which we are employing on the school site to keep everyone (and each other) as safe and as healthy as possible.

Staff News

As per Government guidance, Mrs Kay Francis (Director of Music) is currently absent from school and delivering the majority of her lessons from home through Google Classroom. Mrs Francis has been required to self-isolate as a result of being informed that she has come into contact with someone who has tested positive for Coronavirus.

Mrs Virginia Neal will be acting as Form Tutor for your children in 5F until Mrs Francis returns to work on the School site in the week after next. Mrs Neal can be contacted at .  Parents wishing to make contact with Mrs Francis about any Music Department matters should email her at

Colds and Illnesses

We have already seen the common cold amongst the pupils and staff over the last few weeks so it is even more important that we continue to adhere to the guidelines that have been passed to the community recently (hands, face, space). If your child is suffering from a cold and they are suffering extreme runny/stuffy noses or wet (mucus or phlegm) coughs then we ask that you keep your child off school until the symptoms have improved. Obviously, keep looking for the COVID symptoms and if in doubt please seek further professional advice and ultimately get a test as soon as possible.

Judo and Archery Club

We are still waiting for official documents to be cleared so that these clubs can start again. We shall let parents know as soon as possible when they will start.

5.00pm Pick Up

With more clubs starting, please can you make sure that all three lanes are used in the traffic flow system so that no cars are left waiting on the main road. There should be plenty of space if everyone can do this when waiting for your child. Thank you.

Extreme Haircuts

The school policy is that there should be no extreme haircuts. This also includes any sort of design which is shaved into the hair. Please make sure that, before a haircut, the hairdresser and your child are both very clear that haircuts should not have extreme shaving or very short hair or patches of long hair left.School uniform which has been previously ordered can be collected from the School Office (between 09:00 and 13:00) from when it reopens on Monday 24 August. Please telephone to arrange a collection time, when further details will be given about the procedure for handing over the items without parents coming into the school building.

Keeping Warm

With the weather bringing in colder temperatures please do make sure that your child is wearing the winter uniform or full school tracksuit if they are getting cold indoors when in games kit. We shall be trying to keep the amount of fresh air going into classrooms to a suitable level but this will inevitably still mean some cold drafts. Using the school base layers is a sensible addition to the sports kit in the winter; these base layers (or skins) can be purchased from the school shop. We also have a small number of St Francis red fleeces available for Ages 8-10 and 10-12. These will be sold at the reduced price of £5. Please contact the school uniform shop for any orders:

Parent Consultations

This term we will be conducting our Parent Consultations using Google Meet. Parents of pupils in Reception to Year 6 will have a Consultation Meeting with their child’s Class Teacher or Form Tutor. Parents of pupils in Years 7 and 8 will have individual meetings with their child’s English, Maths, Science, and French teachers (and where relevant for potential scholarship candidates with the Latin and Humanities teachers) as well as their Form Tutor. Further information, including how to book a slot, will be provided nearer the time. In the meantime, we would be grateful if you could note in your diary the following dates for Parent Consultations.
