Book Week & World Book Day – March 2019
This year the theme for World Book Day was Share a Story. At St Francis, we wanted to spread the message that sharing a story with children for just 10 minutes a day can make a crucial difference in helping create readers for life. So this year we planned lots of fun and exciting activities throughout the week 4-9 March, to celebrate the importance of reading for pleasure.
Each of the four rooms in Little Saints Nursery, chose a book as a theme, the children had fun dressing up in appropriate costumes and taking part in activities based around their book!
Book Week for Reception to Year 8 kicked off with a whole school assembly and during the day, we had DROP EVERYTHING & READ sessions, where everyone stopped what they were doing and read for 5 minutes! Even RS lessons followed a book theme; children explored the different religious texts; The Bible, The Quran and The Torah. The following day children brought in clues relating to their favourite book to share with their classmates, along with the book itself!
On World Book Day; 7 March 2019, the whole school got together in mixed aged groups for a day of collaborative activities, based on one picture book – revealed on the day to be, The Lonely Beast by Chris Judge! There was a huge range of activities all linked to the book and arranged to encourage and develop our core CLICK skills; COLLABORATION, LEADERSHIP, INDEPENDENCE, COURTESY, KINDNESS!
